Muscle Growth and Repair

May 12, 2008 Filed Under: General

There’s a great deal of talk concerning muscle growth and repair. Muscle growth occurs as a response to stress put on the muscle. When unusual stress is placed on a muscle, the trauma causes small tears in the fibres and connective tissue of the muscle.

As we grow older, it becomes more and more difficult to get rid of that stubborn fat around our waist, behind and hips. People normally produce about 500 micrograms of growth hormone daily at age 20. It is secreted in pulses by the pituitary gland. These pulses vary between 10 and 30 per day and can be strengthened by exercise.

Human Growth Hormone studies have shown to decrease fat by up to 25% faster than the results of dieting alone.

Trained individuals, however, have been known in several studies, to complete the protein synthesis cycle within roughly 36 hours after intense “conventional” bodybuilding type of weight training. This is strong evidence to support the idea that muscles should be trained every 48 hours. Training acts like a robber who opens the vault where the growth factors are hidden. Because of the estrogens, this beneficial effect of training is attenuated.

Research shows it can enhance lean muscle growth, even in instances when calorie intake was reduced. The mechanism involves pathways in muscle fibers that cause the muscle to synthesize more muscle protein.

As always before taking on new training, vitamins or additives, consult your doctor to make sure that your system is able to take the new circumstances.
