As many will have heard on the grapevine - approximately 2 months ago, Microsoft offered to buy out Yahoo at $31/share. Yahoo executives took time out to consider their offer, but after lengthy consideration, the company rejected the bid firmly as Yahoo feels the offer is not in the best interest of their shareholders and that Microsoft have undervalued Yahoo’s strong and growing position in the market place.
Since then almost 2 months ago, Microsoft and Yahoo have had the occasional discussion, as Microsoft at least is still very interested in pursuing the deal.
But it looks like things are heating up, as this past weekend Microsoft made an aggressive move, by announcing that Yahoo had three weeks or until April 26th to make a deal with them, or Microsoft would pursue a hostile takeover.
Just wondering how Yahoo would respond to such unwelcome news or even what the likelihood is of such a merger actually taking place between the two companies - could this really become a reality? Could there be a chance that Yahoo would agree to a deal with Microsoft if the price was right? Time will show.
