Can You Ever Get Out of Credit Card Debt?
November 15, 2009 Filed Under: Uncategorized
If you’re like most people these days you are probably burdened with credit card debt. Because of this, you’ve probably asked yourself “can I ever get out of it?” Although it may seem impossible at first, the true answer is YES you can get out of debt! To do so, it will take determination and planning. These 2 things combined will finally rid you of this debt.
Eliminating your credit card debt is not impossible if you’re focused. This focus must be maintained and go hand in hand with your plan and determination.
The first thing you are going to need is determination. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come easy. You are really going to have to reach down and find it. In order to find it, just imagine what your life would be like if you no longer had this black cloud hanging over you. Imagine how much happier your home life would be without this credit card debt. Imagine how much less stress you would have. Hopefully, you are starting to see the picture and can latch onto these images to help you find the determination.
Another thing that will happen is that all of those irritating calls from credit card companies and collection agents will stop. This would surely be like a huge weight has been lifted from you. As you may very well know, these people are relentless in their quest to get you to pay off your debt. So use this to fire your determination as well.
Another thing that can help you become determined, is that once you clear these debts, you will have less stress in your life. If you have plenty of credit card debt, you probably can’t remember feeling relaxed. So again, think about this and use it to your advantage.
Hopefully, you will keep these suggestions on the top of your mind and use them to build up your determination so that you are finally rid yourself of this credit card debt.
Not only do you need determination but you also need a plan. Here are some suggestions:
1. Create a List – List all of the credit cards you currently have and write down the amount of debt, and the interest rate you are paying on them. Then, add them up to see the actual total of what you owe. Most people never even add them up so they have no realization of how bad the situation really is.
2. Be Aware of Late Fees – When reading your bills, check to see if you are paying any late fees. If you are, try to pay these cards first to avoid these fees. It’s hard enough to pay your cards down. It’s even harder when you have additional fees added on top of them.
3. Your Current Financial Position – The next thing is to add up all of your household income(s). Then, see what is left over and use this money to pay off some of these credit cards instead of spending your excess money. Now you may have heard to pay off the highest balances first or to pay the ones off with the highest interest rates. Although this is good advise, it does nothing to satisfy your your need for instant gratification. Instead of paying off these cards try paying down your smallest one. If you do, you will then start to see how planning and determination will pay off the others.
4. Find Another Income – If you find yourself with extra time on your hands, you may want to find a part time job. Although this can cut into your free time paying off those credit cards will surely make up for it in the future. If you don’t have time to go out of your home to another job try to find some online opportunities to supplement your income. There are plenty of low cost ways to make money online.
5. The Future Is Bright – Although it may be a long way off, you should know how long it will take you to finally get rid of your credit card debt. Try to mark it on a calendar or keep it in your mind so that you set a goal for yourself. Everyone should have goals. If you can remember this one, it will become important and you will accomplish it.
Now that you have a few ideas for eliminating your credit card debt, please try to put them into practice. If you wait, it will slowly slip from your mind and nothing will ever change.
